I’m Avery (mom/mommy/she/her) and that’s my wife, Jess (mama/she/her) in the snazzy bow tie and hat. We live in Los Angeles, California and have been happily married for thirteen years. We blog primarily about our journey to and through parenting as a two mom lesbian family to share resources with future and current LGBTQ parents (but ALL families are welcome here!). We also love to share our lives as a whole and have plenty of topics to cover, like health and wellness, relationships and same-sex marriage, style, and, well…life as a lesbian couple with a baby! Why’d we start a two mom blog? One simple reason: we want to share our experience with other LBGTQ people to help navigate the path to and through conception, pregnancy, parenthood, and life. When we started our journey to parenthood on January 1, 2019, we were totally clueless about where to start, or even what steps we needed to take to make a baby the non-old-fashioned way. We only knew one lesbian couple who had a baby, but we weren’t close and didn’t know if they would think it was rude to ask all the personal questions of how they conceived their baby. I turned to google, expecting a sea of websites vying for the opportunity to show us our options, but I was shocked that there weren’t many clear answers. It was daunting and a bit overwhelming to realize it was going to take a good amount of digging to figure out the steps to have a baby as a lesbian couple. Over a few months, we pieced together steps to start our family by reading outdated books from the 90s and 2000s (totally fascinating and awesome to see how far things have come in lesbian history, but not exactly helpful with making a baby today), googling some more, and trying different hashtags on Instagram to find LGBTQ couples who were trying to conceive (ttc) or who were already parents. Slowly, we began to figure out what we needed to do, and 9 months later, I was pregnant (I know, it’s funny to me, too), and, um, 9 months after that, our first baby arrived. We are so thankful for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer families who share their experiences and lives online. We want to pay it forward to LGBTQ parents and parents-to-be. We want to share our journey to parenthood. We want to share our lives. We want to be your community. Since going through the process from conception to parenthood as a lesbian couple ourselves, we’ve found so much joy in sharing our experience with other queer parents-to-be who have the same deer in the headlights look we had back at the beginning of 2019. We also love sharing what it’s like to be parents - the good, the bad, the hilarious, the messy.
